No vive ya nadie, todos se han ido is a project that started from a set of family stories that were transmitted to me orally by women in my family. The stories are linked to the idea of home, displacement, memory and what was not said. During the Reading Room at Tangent Projects, the project was introduced as an installation that contained a table where texts, collected objects, video and sound records are gathered. The objects but also the sounds were collected, recorded and disassembled to continue investigating the idea of home. The materials were also are arranged on a tablecloth constructed from scraps of family fabrics and pieces found at fairs, thinking about the multiple tablecloths that we find in each of our homes. I am interested in testing ways in which stories are put together and taken apart without a definitive form, tracing those moments where the anecdote is transformed and different versions of the events are formulated. I am also interested in investigating the role of women as guardians and transmitters of memory, which has one of the most prominent personifications in the goddess Mnemosyne, and reflecting on oral transmission as that which disintegrates to other spaces. For a week, ten women artists, writers and curators were convened in an individual instance at Tangent Projects, giving rise to ten different books that reflect different ways of bringing together the proposed materials and texts and proposing different stories. The project proposes that each of them weave new stories and reflect on the concept of home, identity, movement and nation, as well as the search to make something portable (an object, a house or a memory perhaps) to build. new stories. The process was recorded with a video camera installed above the table to record those movements, mutations and deformations that occurred. Finally, during an open event, we shared these ten books made in collaboration with each of the artists and we had an open conversation around the creation process and the collective experience during the construction of the books, as well as a collective reading of some of the texts contained in the books. The video recording was projected during the conversation, as an additional layer of the story. In a second instance of the project, thinking about how stories continue to evolve, mix and deform, I worked on an artist’s book, with a strong experimental character, both in experimentation with diverse papers and forms of writing and printing. These books were presented in Chiquita Room (Tandem on books) during Sant Jordi 2024 and at Fundació Miró for Lluerna 2024.
